Thomas Eli Schnell, a resident of Okmulgee, formerly of Ajo, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, at the age of 75. He was born on November 11, 1948, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Eli Schnell and Thelma Lorene (Baker) Schnell.
He spent most of his life in Ajo, Arizona, working as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the Freeport Moran company in the copper mines until his retirement in 2007. He was a dedicated member of the Masonic lodge in Ajo, Arizona, and contributed significantly to his community by serving as the director of the Sheriffs Auxiliary in Ajo for 16 years. Additionally, he was a long-standing member of the Federated Church of Ajo for 60 years.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Tracey Travis of Okmulgee; his son, Michael Schnell of Weleetka; his grandchildren, Nichole Buzzard and Jeremy Chasteen of Okmulgee, Shawn Travis of Okmulgee, Hailey Wilson of Weleetka, and Caleb Wilson of Weleetka; his great-grandchildren, Arieah-Len Buzzard and Kayson Chasteen of Okmulgee; and his sisters, Mary Yandell and husband Wes of Tucson, Arizona, and Joyce Potter and husband Rick of Tucson. He also leaves behind many other friends and extended family.
