Vernon Leroy Long

Vernon Leroy Long, a lifelong resident of Henryetta, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on January 7, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on April 5, 1928, in Schulter, Oklahoma, he was the son of William Crayton Long Sr. and Josephine Catherine (Cobb) Long.

During World War II, Mr. Long served in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1947. His commitment to community service was evident through his active membership in several local organizations, including the Henryetta VFW Post 539, the Henryetta Lions Club, and the Okmulgee Elks Club.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Herbert Long, Thomas Long, Thomas Hebert Long, and Bill Long Jr.; sisters Louise Williams, Dovie Burns, Viola Burns, Bernice McKay, and Thelma Harelson; and his son, Leroy Long.

He is survived by his wife, Cleotilde Long, of the home; children Steven Long, Crayton Long, Vernon Long Jr., Danny Long, Verna Long, Katherine Long, and Susan Booth; stepdaughter Donna Morrison; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In the coming days, a memorial service will be held at the Integrity Chapel to honor Mr. Long's life and legacy.
