OBITUARY FOR WASHINGTON KELLY JR.
Washington Kelly Jr. of Henryetta, OK was born November 11, 1944 to Washington Kelly Sr. and Wynema (Leader) Kelly. He departed to join the Creator August 4, 2021 peacefully at home.
He was a citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation as well as the Seminole Nation. He was also a member of Arbeka Ceremonial Ground and a son of Deer clan. He grew up around the Wilson, OK area and attended college at The Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. He later served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany where he was trained as a machinist. He would continue with machinist work throughout the rest of his life.
In his early years, he was an avid car enthusiast. He would build and drive several hot rod cars. As he grew older after retirement, he enjoyed the open road and traveling with his wife JoAn. When he was not traveling, he could be found in his wood working shop on any given day.
He had a great sense of humor and a warm welcoming smile. He was friendly with anyone he met. He could make a person feel as if he had known him his whole life. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Kelly, as most people referred to him, was preceded in death by his parents: Wynema (Leader) Kelly and Washington Kelly Sr., his 2 older brothers Doug Starr and Eugene Kelly, a younger brother Richard Kelly, and an older sister Colleen Starr as well as 2 sons Jeffrey Kelly and Brandon Bernard.
He is survived by his beloved wife JoAn, his cousin Earl, his sister Ruby, his son and daughter-in-law Ritchie and Julie Bernard, and a daughter Jodi Kelly, and youngest daughter Jacci Townsell and son-in-law Raymond Bearpaw. He has several grandchildren: Jagger, Kamdin, Ioan and tagOfanE. He was blessed with 2 great grandchildren Eco and ts’Onta. His survivors also include several nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be from 11-1 PM, Friday, August 13, 2021 at Integrity Chapel.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2PM, Friday, August 13, 2021 at Integrity Chapel. Interment will follow at Butler Family Cemetery north of Henryetta. Services are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
