Wesley Robert Nelson, a resident of Henryetta and recent US Army veteran, passed from this life on Monday, January 7, 2013 in Tulsa at the age of 25. Wesley was born on September 21, 1987 in Ft. Stewart, Georgia to Jewett Nelson and Cathy M. Williamson. In 1987, Wesley moved to Germany with his family during his father's military service. In 1991, he returned to Oklahoma where he grew up. After living in Ft. Hood for several years, Wesley returned to Oklahoma where he attended high school. Wesley graduated from Henryetta High School with the class of 2006. Shortly after graduation he joined the US Army National Guard where he faithfully served for six years. During that period of time he served tours of duty in both Iraq from January 2008 until September, 2008and in Egypt, October 2010 through September, 2011. During his military service Wesley was awarded numerous distinctions from the U.S. Army including 2 Army Commendation Medals, 4 Army Achievement Medals, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army NCO Professional Development Medal, Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Armed Services Ribbon, Armed Services Reserve Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon, 2 Multinational Force and Observers Medals, Oklahoma National Guard Exceptional Service Ribbon, and 6 Oklahoma Good Conduct Ribbons before being honorably discharged last August. Wesley attended OSU Tech where he studied heat and air conditioning and electrical. He also attended the Nazarene Church in Henryetta. Wesley is preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Amanda Nicole Nelson; his maternal grandmother, Polly Williamson; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Rivera; and his grandfather, LV Nelson. He is survived by his father, Jewett Nelson of Henryetta; his mother, Cathy McLeland and husband Dave of Henryetta; 2 step brothers, Eddie McLeland of Pryor, David McLeland of Arkansas; a step-sister, Donnie Blevins of California; a brother, Brandon Blevins of Henryetta; aunt and uncles, Della Thompson and husband Roy of Twin Hills, Marsha McCaa and husband Nathan of Troy, TX; uncles Frank Nelson of Henryetta and Johnie Todd of Hot Springs, Arkansas; aunt, Michelle Allen and husband Greg of Henryetta; aunt, Carrie Crayk & husband Paul of Henryetta; step grandfather, Gary Warren, several nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins; and many good friends. Viewing and visitation will be held at Integrity Funeral Service on Thursday and Friday from 8am until 8pm. A funeral service for Wesley is scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00pm at the First Baptist Church in Dewar with Rev. Jack Vance officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Westlawn Cemetery in Henryetta under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service.
